Families shouldn’t have to choose between seeking help for their children, or putting food on the table.
This Christmas, support young people like Ellie to overcome mental health challenges that are holding them back.
This Christmas, we want to give young people and their families the support they need, so that they can enjoy their Christmas together rather than face the tough times alone.
The cost and accessibility of mental health services in Victoria varies significantly, which means not all young people can get the help they need.
At CatholicCare Victoria, we believe families should never have to choose between seeking help for their kids, or putting food on the table.
Please help a family in need this Christmas.
“Initially we were referred to a psychology clinic and the appointments were $170. I put it off for a while because it was just... it was not something that was readily affordable for us.”
“It made me feel awful because I was like, well, if I can’t afford this for my child, what kind of mother does that make me?" - Jem, mother of two
Ellie is a kind-hearted and talented 10-year-old girl, who we’re currently supporting in our mental health programs at CatholicCare Victoria.
She lives on a farm with her parents and brother, and with her two beloved cats and dog. She enjoys playing tag and playing outdoors with her cousins.
But recently, Ellie has experienced feelings which she didn’t quite understand. Unbeknownst to Ellie, she was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks.
I was feeling like, I didn't know why I'm feeling this way... but it was just something that's making me feel down and making me feel, like, upset and not nice.
Sometimes there was not something to distract me, so I just start crying"
Over 1 in 3 young people attend our school counselling services to access help for anxiety.
Please donate today to give mental health support to young people in need, for a brighter future.
