Residential Care Program

Providing wellbeing and stability for young people in care

Residential Care programs provide out of home care for children and young people who have been removed from their family home and referred through the Child Protection system.

Supported by a team of House Workers, Residential Care homes create a safe, stable and nurturing environment for young people to grow.

Helping young people to thrive

CatholicCare Victoria’s Residential Care model provides a nurturing environment where young people can experience support to overcome significant life challenges.

Staff use a research-based therapeutic model to focus on healing and to help young people develop independence and vital life skills in preparation for transitioning out of care.

All work is aimed at achieving measurable changes in these areas of the young person’s life to help them prepare for a longer term and less intensive placement option with family, kinship care, home-based care, or independent living arrangements.

CatholicCare Victoria’s Residential Care programs feature:

  • high quality therapeutic care using trauma-informed, child-centred and family-focused interventions
  • relational experiences to support young people to recover from adverse experiences of abuse, neglect and trauma
  • promotion of safety and wellbeing while actively working towards the permanency objective
  • strengthening of the cultural identity and connection for all Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse children and young people
  • education and vocation supports, and for our newer programs – access to an Education Specialist.

Our staff make a difference

Out of Home Care can be confronting for a young person, especially if they have experienced trauma or other significant life changes.

Our team is trained to support young people at this critical time, providing a safe, stable and understanding environment.

Staff use relationship-first and trauma-informed care practices to journey alongside a young person, ultimately empowering them to flourish and grow into longer-term and independent living.

House Workers are an essential part of this growth.
