Settlement Engagement & Transition Support

Empowering migrants and refugees to settle well

Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) provides one-on-one support, counselling, advocacy and informative group programs for refugees who have lived in Australia for up to five years.

SETS focuses on addressing three of the key challenges refugees face when resettling in Australia – English language skills, education and training, and employment.

Empowering refugees to address their settlement needs

Settling in a new country can be difficult; language barriers, mental and physical health issues, and social disconnectedness can make settlement stressful and challenging.

These issues can also lead to bigger problems such as long-term unemployment and homelessness.

CatholicCare Victoria's SETS program combats these issues by improving social participation, economic wellbeing, independence, personal wellbeing and community connectedness.

Services available for refugees and vulnerable migrants through the SETS program include:

  • Case management - this includes information, advice, advocacy, and referral to government and community programs
  • Youth group programs - including after-school learning and water safety
  • Adult group programs and information sessions - such as English conversation classes, citizenship support, justice education, and IT skills for jobs
  • Counselling - for complex cases of grief and trauma

We focus on the three ‘E’s for good settlement

CatholicCare Victoria’s SETS services focus on three key areas which are vital in helping refugees to settle well:

  1. English language skills
  2. Education and training
  3. Employment
