Our History

Building thriving communities, where everyone belongs.

In 2021, Centacare Gippsland, Centacare Ballarat, CatholicCare Melbourne and CatholicCare Sandhurst merged to form CatholicCare Victoria, drawing on over 90 years of supporting children, individuals, families, prison residents, newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers and people experiencing homelessness.

Melbourne history

Founded in 1935, by pioneer social workers Norma Parker and Connie Moffit, to provide social services to the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Ballarat history

Established in 1977 as the Ballarat Diocesan Family Services Inc, the organisation provided social welfare and outreach services.

Gippsland & Sale history

Centacare Gippsland was officially established in 1998, two years after a counselling service commenced in Warragul and surrounding areas.

Sandhurst history

Founded in 1986 as the Catholic Community and Family Services, the organisation supported communities living in North East, North and Central Victoria.
