Laughter and learning at Cosy Corner Beach

It’s impossible not to smile watching a bunch of women laugh together as they experience the joys and challenges of bodyboarding for the first time!

Last week in partnership with Life Saving Victoria, our Geelong Settle Well program held a beach program for refugee mums from North Geelong Secondary College - and if smiles were a measure of success, then I’d say it was a pretty successful day.

The mums participated in a range of activities which involved learning how to use bodyboards and paddle boards, life jackets and other lifesaving equipment; hearing about water hazards and water safety; and playing a few games of soccer!

“This is the first time swimming in my life,” said one of the participants Naw Pu, through the help of an interpreter.

This was true in fact for many of the women, and for those who had swam before it had been a very long time since.

We thank Life Saving Victoria, North Geelong Secondary College, The fOrT and our staff and interpreters for making this day possible!
