Our Board dedicates their time to lead CatholicCare Victoria and make strategic decisions that enable us to build thriving communities.

Fr Charles Balnaves

Board Member, December 2020

Fr Charles is Parish Priest of St Gregory the Great Parish Doncaster and St Kevin’s Parish Templestowe, Victoria. He is also a member of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Supplementary Capital Fund, assists with the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, and is a Trustee of Opening the Doors Foundation.

Fr Charles holds a Bachelor of Arts (Applied Mathematics); a Bachelor of Theology (Hons); and a Masters in Theology.

He brings rich experience of family life arising from 36 years of marriage, with two sons and a granddaughter. Following his wife Tanya’s death in 2012, Fr Charles undertook a journey of discernment which led to ordination as a Permanent Deacon and then as a Priest.

Sally Kirkright

Board Member, August 2021

Sally is a commercial and strategic business leader with an executive career in the financial services and health sectors.

Her board experience spans the sports, health and not-for-profit sectors where her contribution has focused on achieving member and philanthropic outcomes, governing risk and financial outcomes, guiding strategic development, and creating inclusive and thriving board cultures.

Sally holds a Bachelor of Business Banking & Finance (Honours); a Diploma in Financial Planning; a Graduate Diploma in Psychology; and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Sarah McAdie

Board Member, December 2020

Sarah McAdie is currently Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Bendigo Health, overseeing the Corporate Affairs, Fundraising, Volunteering, and the Governance and Business planning departments.

A communications professional with almost 20 years’ experience, she has worked as a Ministerial Advisor in Federal politics, National Communications Manager for DON KRC and has spent the majority of her career in the health sector, including a stint in the NHS in the UK.

She previously served on the board of Castlemaine Community Health and the Kyneton Community and Learning Centre, and is an active member of the Country Women’s Association.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Kate McCormack

Board Member, August 2021

Kate is currently an Executive with Villa Maria Catholic Homes. She is a committed and dynamic Human Resources executive with over 25 years of experience across retail, logistics and healthcare.

She was previously the Human Resources Director for Mercy Health where amongst her achievements included being awarded Diversity Leader for the ‘Advancement of Women’ Equal Opportunity Workplace for Women and a winner of ‘Age Diversity in the Workplace’ Award from the Australian Human Resources Institute, amongst others.

Kate holds a Masters in Industrial Relations/Employee Relations; a Graduate Diploma Industrial Relations/Employee Relations; is a Fellow of Australian HR Institute; and Grenoble Ecole De Management.

Sara McIvor

Chair, December 2020

Sara is currently the Director, Program Governance & Assurance at the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority in Victoria. She is responsible for the key governance and assurance activities across this large infrastructure entity which is responsible for significant components of the Victoria Big Build Program.

Sara has significant assurance, integrity, risk and governance experience across the public and private sector. She is also a member of the CatholicCare Victoria Housing Project Control Group.

Sara holds a Bachelor of Law, and is a Chartered Accountant.

Kevin Murnane

Board Member, December 2020

Kevin brings skills in finance, governance, business and systems development and implementation.

Kevin represents CatholicCare Victoria on the CatholicCare Victoria Housing (CCVH) Board, CCVH sub committees (Risk and Compliance, Finance) and also the CCVH Project Control Group.

Kevin holds a Diploma of Business Studies, and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand; a Registered Tax Agent; and a former Registered Company Auditor.

John Murphy

Board Member, December 2020

John had a 40-year career in the Australian Army and Commonwealth Public Service encompassing roles in training and development, personnel management, organisational design, resource modelling and management, policy development, community development and the delivery of community services.

John was Chair of Haven Home Safe housing and homelessness service and a Director there for 16 years. He was previously a director and Chair of CatholicCare Sandhurst and a director of Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Tuanh Nguyen

Board Member, August 2021

Tuanh Nguyen is a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, specialising in providing legal advice to Australian and international clients on corporate transactions.

Tuanh is also a Board member of Vietnamese Museum Australia and Birdlife Australia. She has nearly 20 years’ experience assisting clients with fundraising transactions and private and public M&A.

She has extensive experience advising Australian companies and not-for-profit organisations, and their boards on corporate governance and risk management issues.

She also has significant experience in ESG as an advisor on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Tuanh has received several legal industry awards for her work as a corporate lawyer. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM); a Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom); and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

Frank O’Connor

Board Member, August 2021

Frank is a highly skilled and experienced leader with specific expertise in governance coupled with an extensive executive management background in information technology and corporate services.

Frank brings a passion for a just and equitable society and has committed himself over the past four decades to a range of NFP organisations in conjunction with a long corporate career at Senior Executive level. His focus has been on social justice issues and he has been deeply involved in areas of social housing, disadvantaged women and girls, community health, indigenous affairs and aged care.

He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; holds an Associate Diploma in Mathematics; and is a Member Australian Computer Society (Snr).

Michael Perusco

Board Member, July 2024

Over more than two decades Michael has held CEO positions with Sacred Heart Mission, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, Unison Housing and Berry Street. In these roles he was responsible for the delivery of services in housing and homelessness, out of home care, disability, aged care, health, education, family violence and mental health.

He also worked at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Michael is an experienced non-executive director and has served on various government advisory bodies.

Maureen Waddington

Board Member, December 2020

Maureen is the Director of Mission at St John of God Hospital Ballarat, and was previously a director and Chair of Centacare Ballarat.

Maureen holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Theology, and is a Justice of the Peace.
