Adoption & Permanent Care

Supporting families and children for a brighter future

CatholicCare’s Adoption and Permanent Care Program is Victoria’s only state-wide service that assists parents who are considering to place their child for adoption, or who are required to place their child in permanent care.

We also assist families who are seeking to become adoptive and permanent care parents.

Our services are child-focused and aim to meet every child’s needs in the best possible way. We also have an Adoption Information Service providing information about past adoptions arranged by our agency.

View the pages below for more information:

Adoption

Adoption is the long-term care of a child aged 0-12 months who has been relinquished by their natural parents.

Permanent care

Permanent care is the long-term care of a child aged 0-12 years, where they are in need of stability and consistency.

Adoption Information Service

Our Adoption Information Service provides information, records release, search, outreach and mediation services in relation to past adoptions arranged by CatholicCare and our predecessors.

Foster care

CatholicCare does not provide a foster care program, but we do work with children in foster care who are in need of long-term care.

Foster care is often confused with permanent care because of their similarities. If you are considering becoming a foster carer or you’d like to learn more, check out our permanent care webpage to see if this may be an option for you.

Eligibility

Our Adoption and Permanent care service is offered state-wide; we can work with clients and agencies anywhere in Victoria.

CatholicCare’s Adoption and Permanent Care Program is funded by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.
