At CCV, we’re passionate about building a strong, thriving, connected community in Wyndham and across Melbourne’s Western Growth Corridor. Since our Wyndham Vale office opened on 1 July 2024, we’ve been working hard to become a trusted and well-known support hub for local families and service providers.
We were proud to join forces with a number of incredible local organisations for the South Sudanese Family Fun Day, held at the Central Park Community Centre in Hoppers Crossing. The event brought together 87 members from the South Sudanese community for a day of celebration and connection.
Our Wyndham-based teams have been actively collaborating with local organisations to raise awareness of the services available through CatholicCare Victoria — and how these services can be accessed. By building strong partnerships and participating in shared initiatives like this, we’re helping to create a more connected and supportive local service system.
The day was made possible thanks to the leadership and support of many, including Divya Garg from our Engaging Wyndham Families program, and our colleagues Ye Htoo Maung Salai, Jawid Sayed, and Jacinta Wainwright from the Settlement Engagement & Transition Support (SETS) service. Also contributing were Yared Gabremeskel from our Alcohol and Other Drugs team, Deacon George from Prison Chaplaincy, and Ruth Knight, CCV Senior Manager, Strategy.
We’re grateful to all the partner organisations and community members who made the day a success — a true example of collaboration in action.
Together, they created a warm, welcoming space where families could connect and ask questions. Special games and activities were also specially organised to ensure children were engaged and could join in on the fun too.
“It was heartwarming to see kids laughing and playing, while their parents had real conversations with us about the support they need. This is what community connection looks like.” – Divya Garg, Engaging Wyndham Families
Children especially loved the games and kept coming back to our stall to play. It was a great chance for our team to meaningfully engage with families and have conversations about the support available — from financial assistance and material aid to eligibility for our SETS program and referrals for health and wellbeing services.
