A young person finds healing and hope in their new family.
A young person in care, recently underwent life-changing heart surgery, supported every step of the way by dedicated CCV staff and carers.
After arriving in Australia to reunite with their parent, the young person faced unimaginable tragedy when they were both involved in a car accident. Sadly, the accident claimed their parent’s life.
This heartbreaking event also impacted the young person’s visa status, leaving them without family or legal support in a new country.
Child Protection Services quickly stepped in, placing the young person with a compassionate carer, who shared their cultural and religious background.
This nurturing and familiar environment has been their home for the past three years.
To help the young person and their carer navigate the emotional aftermath, they were referred to CatholicCare Victoria.
As part of routine health checks, it was discovered that a heart valve which normally closes in early childhood, had remained open, creating potential risks for the future.
After a lengthy wait for treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital, CCV staff accompanied the young person to hospital, remaining by their side throughout their stay.
The surgery went smoothly, with no complications, and a routine follow-up confirmed the young person is now thriving.
In a beautiful turn of events, while recovering in hospital, the young person received the joyful news that their visa application had also been approved.
They now have the security of being able to remain in Australia indefinitely, surrounded by care, stability, and hope for the future.
