Rebecca* is a mother of four young children, of whom two have severe developmental delays and additional needs.
Life was a daily challenge, managing therapies, appointments, and constant care while facing her own health issues.
These struggles left her physically drained and emotionally exhausted, often feeling overwhelmed and isolated.
Rebecca knew she needed support and connected with our Engaging Wyndham Families (EWF) program. Through the program, she received both practical and emotional support for both herself and her children.
Her Case Manager Divya, offered Rebecca psycho-dynamic education around her children’s support needs and helped her navigate the NDIS system.
Divya also ensured that Rebecca was prepared for planning meetings, and was able to secure the right supports for her children. This newfound clarity improved Rebecca’s confidence, which also gave her a sense of control over her situation and helped her feel less stressed.
Alongside this, Rebecca was encouraged to acknowledge, accept and talk about her feelings, rather than carrying them alone.
“Divya supported me during one of the hardest times in my life, when I was struggling with depression and anxiety. I felt heard and understood. With her support, I was able to keep moving forward for myself and my children,”
She began rebuilding her relationship with her partner and strengthening her family bonds.
With gentle encouragement, she also took steps towards her personal growth and independence by enrolling herself in further study, learning to drive and focusing on her wellbeing.
Importantly, the children have also formed a trusting relationship with our EWF worker through which they felt comfortable and open to engaging with the program.
Not only did this strengthen their sense of belonging, but also supported the children to feel part of the wider community.
Through perseverance and the right support, Rebecca has grown into a more confident and empowered woman.
She continues to manage the complex needs of her children while also investing in her own future and health.
Her journey shows how, with compassion and guidance, individuals can find strength even in challenging circumstances.
