Walking alongside families when it matters most
Family Services support more than 40,000 families across Victoria each year, and in this video our practitioner Danielle shares what it means to walk alongside families when they need support most.
Every family experiences challenging moments. Times when life feels overwhelming, support feels out of reach, or asking for help feels hard. Across Victoria, Family Services play a vital role in ensuring families are not facing those moments alone.
Each year, Family Services support more than 40,000 families across Victoria, helping parents build confidence, connect with community support, and create safe, nurturing homes for their children.
Our Family Preservation and Reunification practitioner, Danielle, was recently featured in a video produced by the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, alongside other practitioners from across the sector. The video shines a light on the real, day-to-day work of Family Services and the meaningful difference this support can make for families in the community.
In the video, Danielle speaks honestly about the courage it can take for families to reach out for help.
“It can be uncomfortable for families to have to admit or acknowledge it,” she says. “That’s why how we show up really matters.”
Family Preservation and Reunification services are designed to walk alongside families during periods of stress or crisis, offering practical support, guidance and connection. The focus is always on strengthening relationships, building safety, and supporting families to stay together wherever possible.
For Danielle and her colleagues, this work is deeply relational. It is about listening without judgement, building trust over time, and meeting families where they are. Whether support is short-term or ongoing, the goal remains the same: helping families feel supported, empowered and connected to their community.
The video highlights how practitioners across Victoria work collaboratively with families, recognising that no two families are the same. Support is tailored, respectful and grounded in the belief that families are best placed to care for their children when they are given the right support at the right time.
We are proud to see Danielle’s work reflected in this video and to be part of a broader community of organisations committed to supporting families through compassionate, strengths-based practice.
We invite you to watch the video below to hear directly from Danielle and other practitioners, and to learn more about how Family Services are supporting families across Victoria, every day.
