Homes First

Homes First focuses on supporting people into long-term social housing as well as accessing up to three years of tailored wrap-around support to help them sustain their tenancy and improve their wellbeing by achieving key life outcomes.

These outcomes may include stabilising mental and physical health, community engagement, engaging in training/education, and obtaining employment. 

Evidence shows that this “Housing First” approach is critical to breaking the cycle of homelessness. 

Our Homes First program can provide support to find suitable long-term accommodation, as well as support with any identified barriers/vulnerabilities, such as: 

• mental health issues
• drugs and alcohol dependence
• financial difficulties
• family violence

Homes First supports people who are:

• sleeping rough and/or experiencing recurring homelessness
• in the Loddon and Wimmera-Southwest regions. 

Referrals for this program come from any Specialist Homelessness Service or organisation in each region.

Packages of support and accommodation is limited to 30 for each region in the first year of the program. Additional packages of accommodation and support are available in years two and three of the program.
