Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS)

Empowering newly arrived refugees to address their settlement needs.

One-on-one support, counselling, advocacy and informative group programs for refugees who have lived in Australia for five years or less.

Addressing settlement needs

Settling in a new country can be difficult; language barriers, mental and physical health issues, and lack of social connectedness can make settlement stressful and challenging. These issues can also lead to issues such as long-term unemployment and homelessness.

The SETS program addresses the root of these issues by focusing on the ‘three Es’ which are vital in helping refugees to address their settlement needs:

  • English language skills
  • Education and training
  • Employment

 

Services available include:

  • Case management – this includes information, advice, advocacy, and referral to government and community programs
  • Youth programs – including after-school homework clubs, cooking groups, water safety and more
  • Adult programs and information sessions – English conversation classes, citizenship support, justice education, IT skills for employment, sewing and weaving groups etc.
  • Counselling – for complex cases of grief and trauma.

Who is this service for?

  • Humanitarian entrants in their first five years of arrival in Australia 
  • Community service organisations can also make referrals into the SETS service by contacting us.

This service is funded by the Commonwealth Government Department of Home Affairs.
