The Bi-Cultural Worker will provide support to and work across both the Settle Well and Job Readiness programs.
Settle Well is a holistic, school-based program for young refugees and asylum seekers aged between 15 and 20 years old, at risk of disengagement from school and community life.
Job Readiness assists refugees and asylum seekers to prepare for and seek employment in Australia. This program will secure employment pathways through job readiness initiatives, employment placements and training.
The Bi-Cultural Worker will work across both the Settle Well and Job Readiness programs to provide support to individuals and communities with whom they share similar cultural experiences and understanding. The Bi-Cultural Worker will demonstrate that they have the ability to deliver group work and one on one sessions with clients from refugee and humanitarian background communities. Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English are essential. Fluency in other languages particularly Persian, Dari and Swahili would be considered an advantage.
Specifically, the position is responsible for:
- Engaging with refugees and asylum seekers to support their education and to secure employment and training opportunities.
- Providing services that are sensitive to issues pertaining to diversity of gender, race, religion and culture.
- Developing resources as required to achieve the outcomes of the program.
- Developing and delivering innovative employment information workshops on Australian culture, workplace safety and job preparation.
- Maintaining accurate and timely data entry within Client Management System (Penelope), including case notes.
To be considered for this position, applicants require:
- Diploma in Community Services or other Welfare or related field is desirable, but not necessary.
- Previous experience working in the field of refugee and settlement, running groups, writing assessment reports and working as part of a team, working with volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience working with or in partnership with employment agencies, job readiness programs, training organisations or similar experience.
