About the role
The Victims Assistance Program (VAP) is a free service that provides practical and emotional support and assistance for victims of crime to navigate the criminal justice system for both reported and unreported crimes. The VAP aims to assist victims to effectively manage the damaging consequences of violent crime and to minimize the secondary victimization sometimes associated with involvement in the criminal justice system.
The Victim Support Worker, VAP provides a high quality, prompt, case management services to victims of violent crime. The position provides assistance to all clients including high and medium need clients, with long term and/or more intensive assistance in response to the increasing need for complex case management support.
Specifically, the position is responsible for:
- Providing timely and culturally sensitive case management support to clients in accordance with best practice case management, as well as VAP practice manual and guidelines
- Managing and maintaining a case load throughout the client’s criminal justice journey.
- Providing outreach services wherever necessary including Victoria Police co-locations
- Facilitating referral to more specialised clinical or therapeutic interventions as required
- Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with people and agencies to assist in the delivery of seamless service to victims of crime
To be considered for this position, applicants require:
- A qualification in Social Work, or other relevant tertiary studies.
- Experience in working within victim services, family violence, trauma and recovery and serious criminal offences (desirable).
- Strong understanding of case management principles and demonstrated ability to provide high volume, flexible, client centered and solution focused case management.
- Knowledge and understanding of the VAP and victim services sector, including relevant legislation (desirable).
