The Counselling and Relationship Services (CaRS) portfolio aims to ensure the wellbeing of individuals, couples and families by minimising the emotional, social and economic costs of disruption to daily functioning and/or relationships. Services are for all community members including however not limited to, First Nations Peoples, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds (CALD), low-income earners, sole parents and those living in rural and remote areas. The Men and Family Relationship Program is positioned within the CaRS portfolio.

The Men and Family Relationship Program (MFRP) provides information and referral pathways, counselling and support, education and skill training, and community development, to assist men to resolve relationship issues that arise at various stages of their life journey.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Provide information, advice and referral to men seeking support with relationship and separation issues and assist in the resolution of these issues in the best interest of children.
  • Ensure men are aware of children’s needs in relation to age-appropriate emotions, physical and social needs and ensure the children’s best interests are promoted.
  • Delivery of sessions that provide information and education to men as individuals, fathers and carers.

To be considered for this position, applicants require:

  • Proven professional qualifications in Counselling, e.g. Psychology, Family Therapy, Counselling Graduate Diploma or other relevant tertiary studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with men and men’s health issues, behavioral change and family dynamics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with men, including First Nations Men, men with a disability and men from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • An understanding of emotional intelligence and reflective practice, and the role they play in service delivery.
